SECURITY OFFICERS TRAINING PROGRAM
SUBJECT: INTRODUCTION TO SECURITY
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
To introduce the inexperienced Security officer to the diverse field of private security. The Security officers will get a broad scope view of all career levels of private security.
This section will introduce the Security Officer to the various areas of the security profession: building and perimeter security, fire, safety, and emergency planning, facility protection and security threats. Emphasis will be placed on the duties and function of a security officer, especially crimes in progress, disturbances, disorderly conduct and miscellaneous incidents.
WHAT THE SECURITY OFFICER WILL LEARN
The Security Officer will learn the difference between private security duties and functions verses police duties and law enforcement. Upon completion, the Security Officer will be able to understand the security function in society and be familiar with criminal justice system and how it applies to the security industry.
SUBJECT: LEGAL ASPECTS OF SECURITY
COURSE OBJECTIVE
To introduce the Security Officer to the legal system both civil and criminal.
WHAT THE SECURITY OFFICER WILL LEARN
The Security Officer will be familiar with criminal law. Areas covered are arrests, detention, liability, the court system. Each Security Officer will be required to submit a one page paper on some aspect of the criminal justice system. Upon completion, the Security Officer will have a basic understanding of how he/she will fit into the complex criminal justice system.

All armed Security Officers will be trained on fire range. Security Solutions of Georgia provides 45 additional hours of extensive, personal training as a refresher course for experienced Security Officers and ongoing training during employment.

To be eligible to receive certificates at the completion of the three-week course, Security Officers must pass all tests and complete course requirements.
Ga State Security Enforcement also provides extensive training for Security Officers with no prior experience. The following pages outline the curriculum for new Security and inexperienced Security Officers Training Program.
SUBJECT: VERBAL JUDO
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
To demonstrate how the Security Officer should handle and defuse situations in a professional manner. The course explains to the Security Officer by lecture and video how to use words as a force option.
WHAT THE SECURITY OFFICER WILL LEARN
The Security Officer will learn how to defuse situations and remain professional during a particular incident. Security Officers will be exposed to several scenarios and be shown a step by step way to deal with them in order to gain the best results. Security Officers will also be shown that only 3% of incidents with the public require physical force.
SUBJECT: GEORGIA LAW
COURSE OBJECTIVE
The Security Officer will have a basic understanding how the criminal law system is set up in Georgia and what procedures are necessary to successfully prosecute a person. The course is also designed to show the Security Officer how to use the system to work for them.
This course will familiarize the Security Officer with local statues, state laws, and city ordinances, mechanics or arrest, constitutional law, search and seizures, and court procedures, civil rights, due process of law (14th amendment), criminal code of Georgia and elements (misdemeanors and felonies). Emphasis will be placed on the limitations and legal restraints to be followed by the Security Officers.
WHAT THE SECURITY OFFICER WILL LEARN
The Security Officer will learn the structure of the criminal code of Georgia. He/she will know all misdemeanor laws/felony laws. Security Officers will learn the guidelines on the use of force deadly. Security
Officers will be taught all forcible felony laws in reference to homicide, robbery, burglary and arson.
Security Officers will be taught laws pertaining to their use and possession of firearms and other related duty equipment.
SUBJECT: REPORT WRITING
COURSE OBJECTIVE
This course is designed to inform the Security Officer on how to prepare a concise report. The course will emphasize the importance of interviewing techniques, note-taking, and organization. Security Officers will be escorted to basic crime scenes by the instructor and asked to report on what they witnessed. Also, basic investigation techniques will be discussed.
SUBJECT: FIREARMS TRAINING
COURSE OBJECTIVE
To ensure proper training and instruction as prescribed by the Department of Professionals Regulation. The objective in this block of instructions is to teach firearms safety and fundamental shooting techniques. Basic marksmanship will be taught with the service revolver.
WHAT THE SECURITY OFFICER WILL LEARN
The Security Officer will learn nomenclature of the service weapon and safe use of various defensive weapons. These weapons will include the .38 caliber handgun, police baton, chemical spray devices and the use of psychology. Topics will include the legal ramifications involved in the improper use of these devices as well as the proper care and training necessary. He/she will learn the techniques of sight picture, sight alignment, and equipment placement of devices on the duty belt as well as all state and local laws pertaining to use and possession of the service weapon. At the end of the training week the Security Officer must pass state a required written examination and receive a state mandated minimum score with the service revolver.
SUBJECT: SELF DEFENSE
COURSE OBJECTIVE
The Security Officers will be introduced to various techniques of weaponless self-defense and the legal and safe use of the police baton and other arrest and control methods.
WHAT THE SECURITY OFFICER WILL LEARN
Force Tactics: This course is also designed to help the Security Officer understand when and when not to use deadly force. The student will learn what type of action to take against certain situations that might be faced by security officers. Additionally, the importance of developing the proper psychological reaction to provocation as a form of self-defense will be discussed.
SUBJECT: CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIVE METHODS/PROCEDURES
COURSE OBJECTIVE
This course is designed to introduce the Security Officers to the many aspects of the Investigative procedures. This course will also introduce the Security Officers to the systematic, methodical and relationships pertaining to an incident, commonly referred to as investigative methods and techniques. The Security Officer will also be introduced to the basic investigative methods and techniques up to major criminal investigation.
WHAT THE SECURITY OFFICER WILL LEARN
The Security Officer will learn how to conduct surveillance details and undercover operations. The Security Officers will also be exposed on how to conduct interviews and interrogations of suspects. Information sources will also be discussed, how to establish contact with sources and use them during the course of the investigation. Laws governing undercover investigations and report writing.
SUBJECT: CPR-FIRST-AID
COURSE OBJECTIVE
To develop first-aid skills and CPR skills that the Security Officer can use in the field during an emergency situation. All materials are provided and approved by the American Red Cross.
WHAT THE SECURITY OFFICER WILL LEARN
The Security Officer will learn the warning signs of heart attacks, breathing difficulties, and choking. Security officers will become familiar with first aid procedures: (1) the human body, (2) patient assessment, (3) resuscitation, (4) bleeding, (5) shock, (6) injuries to various parts of the body, and (7) childbirth.
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) will deal with the basic techniques of CPR: (1) when to begin CPR, (2) locating the CPR compression site; and (3) the rates of compressions and ventilation. Proper techniques for one person CPR and CPR use on infants and children will be discussed.
SUBJECT: LOSS PREVENTION AND RETAIL SECURITY
COURSE OBJECTIVE
To introduce the Security Officer to the diverse field of Loss Prevention and Retail Security. Security Officers will be exposed to various methods of securing goods, records and property. The Security Officer will learn how to establish a complete loss prevention program.
WHAT THE SECURITY OFFICER WILL LEARN
The Security Officer will learn how to conduct facility loss prevention surveys, how to establish internal controls and exterior controls. The Security Officer will be able to assume an active role in the area of retail or loss prevention. Security Officers will be taught how to detain and recover merchandise from suspected offenders.
Security Officers will be able to develop a theft case from apprehension to
disposition in court.
SUBJECT: PR-24BATON/HANDCUFFING ARREST & CONTROL
COURSE OBJECTIVE
To instruct the individual on the use of the police baton in a legal and safe manner. To show the Security Officer how to restrain combative individuals, and prevent injury to the officer.
WHAT THE SECURITY OFFICER WILL LEARN
The Security Officer will learn the proper technique with the police baton
protection and restrain will be the key aspects. All Security Officers must
demonstrate the proper use of the baton and the handcuffs. A written examination will be given on all subjects before the Security Officer can be certified.
SUBJECT: HUMAN RELATIONS
COURSE OBJECTIVE
To expose the Security Officers to the many sides of human relations, and how it affects them on and off the job. Security Officers will participate in role-playing to increase their ability for getting along with others.
WHAT THE SECURITY OFFICER WILL LEARN
The Security Officer will learn the many aspects of getting along with many different social groups. Security Officers will learn that good communication skills are the key to getting along on the job as well as in their private lives. Security Officers will concentrate on three key areas: controlling emotions, and effective responses, and avoiding clashes.
This course was designed to improve oral communication skills. The Security Officers will become more assertive and establish a greater sense of security. Emphasis is place on group interaction. Potential cover stories will be discussed as well as the need for sanitized and coded reports. This course also reviews personal characteristics vital to a successful undercover operative.
SUBJECT: LEGAL AND PROCEDURAL ISSUES
COURSE OBJECTIVE
This course is designed to provide an understanding of how the legal system works.
WHAT THE SECURITY OFFICER WILL LEARN
The course content includes inmate lawsuits, representation of employees, impact of State laws and agency regulations, inmate rules and disciplinary segregation, medical and mental health care, overcrowding, jailhouse lawyers, searches, supervision of inmate, and liability
for failure to train.
SUBJECT: COURTROOM PROCEDURES
COURSE OBJECTIVE
This course is designed to provide an understanding of courtroom procedures. It includes pretrial process, trial process, field trips, and mock trials. It also deals with special needs of female offenders, crisis intervention, stress, and legal issues.
